High & Mighty Brass Band plays Bend

It’s a good week to get down and boogie in Bend. After ¡Chiringa! on Sunday, Brooklyn funksters High & Mighty Brass Band will keep the dance party rolling at Munch and Music on Thursday.

This energetic nine-piece calls itself “a party already in progress,” and the music certainly fits the bill. Combining elements of Afro-beat, hip-hop, New Orleans funk and freeform jazz improvisation, the band’s thundering, horn-driven sound has earned it slots playing shows with Dr. John and Trombone Shorty.

Though the band calls Brooklyn home, its members hail from across the globe, including New Orleans, an obvious starting point for the band.

The New York-New Orleans dichotomy in the band’s sound is brought to the forefront in the title of the band’s upcoming EP, “Krewe York: Part 1.” First single “Acid Washed Jeans” brings the cities’ sounds out even more, combining a funky backbeat with the full power of the band’s titular brass section.

Munch and Music kicks off at 5:30 p.m. with opener Fresh Track.
