Grace Alwinger was a long time resident of Bend, OR. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 17, with her family by her side. She was born Oct. 21, 1921, to parents Jay and Christina Nelson, in Lake Odessa, Michigan. The second of seven children.

She married Peter Alwinger Dec. 14, 1942, they moved to Bend in 1946, where there six children were born and raised.

Grace loved being a homemaker. She was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Ladies Auxiliary, and the VFW. She was an avid bowler, bowling in many leagues and tournaments. Loved to square dance. She sewed a lot, making dresses for her girls. They loved going to Reno, Grace could sit at the black jack table for hours.

Grace is survived by her children, Judy Cusick of Utah, Sandy (Chuck) Rector of Bend, Mary Barackman of Bend, Phil Alwinger of Bend and Renee Lanter of Bend; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Britty and Margaret. She is Preceded in death, by her husband, Peter of 61 years; her daughter, Teresa, Cusick; granddaughter, Jenny Lanter; her brothers, Lewis and Lorin; sisters, Evelyn and Loretta.

A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, June 24, at 9:00 a.m., at the old Historical Catholic Church, committal service at Deschutes Memorial Gardens.
