Storm girls rally to keep perfect record intact

Summit’s perfect record was in serious jeopardy Sunday afternoon before the host Storm pulled out a 7-6 Oregon Girls Lacrosse Association nonleague girls lacrosse victory over Newberg.

The Storm’s Lauren Gallivan scored the last of her three goals with 5:25 remaining, breaking a 6-6 tie. Summit held on from there to preserve the win, their 14th in as many games so far this season.

Newberg (13-4) led 4-1 in the first half and 4-3 at halftime. Summit did not overtake the Tigers until Gallivan’s first goal put the Storm up 5-4 with 10:36 to play.

Gallivan scored the game’s last three goals for Summit and also had an assist. Cayley Allan also scored three goals for the Storm (14-0), and Fiona Dolan had a goal to round out the scoring for the winners. Summit goalie Kelsey Norby made 12 saves.

Girls lacrosse

Bend 15, Sheldon 8: Bend Girls Lacrosse won its second in a row and sixth in its past seven games, thumping the visiting Irish from Eugene in an OGLA South League match at 15th Street Field. Joren Fettig led Bend in scoring with six goals, and Allie Rockett had five goals and an assist. Bend (7-3 league, 8-4 overall) charged to an 11-4 halftime lead. Kalene Oates, Ellie Ryan, Taylor Pomerenk and Natalie Hand all added a goal for Bend.

Boys lacrosse

Bend 17, Hermiston 4: HERMISTON — Having already secured the Oregon High School Lacrosse Association’s High Desert League title, Bend wrapped up a perfect league and regular season with a convincing road win over Hermiston. Cade Hinderlider and Cohl Johnston each had five goals and two assists for the Lava Bears (7-0 HDL, 13-0 overall). Bend led 6-3 after one quarter, and it was 10-4 in the second before the Bears scored the final seven goals of the match. Eli Pite had two goals and five assists, Quinn Fettig had two goals and seven ground balls, and Hayden McGee and Austen Ruby added a goal apiece for Bend. Joel Shuster led the Bears defensively with eight ground balls and three steals.
