Restaurant to be a tenant in new building on NE Third Street

Details: A new, one-story, 8,000-square-foot commercial building at NE Third Street and NE Emerson Avenue will be home to the second Jersey Mike’s Subs location in Bend.

Jersey Mike’s Subs, the building’s first tenant, expects to open for business in late May or early June, said Jim McGaha, the franchise owner in Bend. McGaha said the unseasonably warm weather put builders ahead of schedule.

The job cost about $700,000, according to the city of Bend building permit issued in December.

McGaha opened the first Jersey Mike’s last year on SW Century Drive.

Fortney Construction project manager Bob Keatley said another restaurant may be the second tenant before the year is out. He said there will be space for a third, as-yet-unnamed tenant.

The building will share off-street parking with the new Walgreens store that was built last year at NE Franklin Avenue and NE Third Street, Keatley said.

McGaha said he expects enough indoor seating for 22 with another 10-12 seats on the patio. He said he plans to hire about 15 new employees.

Keatley said the location at the heart of the Third Street commercial district is ideal, with lots of vehicle traffic passing daily.

“It’s a huge traffic count,” he said. “It’s a very busy place.”
