As you’ve no doubt heard by now, Pharrell Williams says “Clap along if you know what happiness is to you.”

And if happiness to you is listening to a diverse musical lineup among dense forests, meadows and views of Mount Hood, then Pickathon is the place for you.

That’s right, the innovative indie-roots music festival returns Aug. 1-3 to the Pendarvis Farm in Happy Valley.

Located on the outskirts of Portland, Pickathon features seven unique stages and more than 50 performers. This year’s lineup includes Nickel Creek, Blind Pilot, Warpaint, The War on Drugs, Jolie Holland and Della Mae.

Along with the music, Pickathon is often recognized for its approach to sustainability. According to its website, Pickathon will once again “be the only large outdoor music festival to minimize all single-use cups, dishware and utensils.” It has also been free of plastic bottles and cups since 2010, with the use of reusable stainless steel cups in the beer gardens.

The festival also boasts of being very family-friendly. Special performances, workshops, demonstrations and other activities designed for children will run throughout the weekend. Presenters include Cardboard Songsters, Cedarwood Waldorf School, Circus Cascadia, Trackers Earth, Mother Earth School, The City Repair Project and Music Together of Portland.

Weekend passes are $260. Single-day tickets are $95 and early Thursday-entry passes are $75. Parking is $65 for the weekend or $25 for a single day. Children (ages 12 and younger) are admitted for free.
