Shirley Virginia (Roome) Santee passed away on June 8, 2014. She was 90 years old. Known for her kind heart, sweetness of spirit, quick wit and great sense of humor, she was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Shirley was born in West Paterson, NJ to Squire Chester and Lucie Roome. She had a sister and two brothers who preceded her in death. She eloped with the love of her life, Stanley Santee on June 22, 1941. She met him while working as a silk spotter at Little Falls Laundry. They made their home in Wayne, NJ. After being happily married for almost 60 years he preceded her in death in 2001. They enjoyed times together at their condos on the Jersey Shore and in Florida during their retirement. They also enjoyed cruising.
In 2008, Shirley moved to Oregon to be near her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. She put both her grandson and granddaughter through college, attended their weddings and was present at the births of four great-grandchildren. She especially enjoyed spending time with the family at their condo on the Oregon Coast.
She attended Community Presbyterian Church in Redmond and actively supported the youth programs. She was instrumental in establishing the tradition of “Youth Scrambled Dinners’.
Shirley is survived by daughter, Ginny and son-in-law , Bob Weeber, grandson, Matt and his wife, Leslie Weeber, and granddaughter, Mandy and her husband, Ray Lions. She also had four beautiful great-grandchildren, Kyah, Alyssa, Xavier and Emery. Nephew, Mark and his wife, Janet, and their grown children, Chris and Amanda, also held a very special place in Shirley’s heart.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held for Shirley on Tuesday, June 24, at 3:00 p.m. at Community Presbyterian Church in Redmond., 519 NW 19th.
