Deschutes County Fair’s concert lineup unveiled

Here’s a fun fact that you may not know: Last summer, on Aug. 4, the pop band Hot Chelle Rae played for what I believe to be the biggest concert crowd in Central Oregon’s history at the Deschutes County Fair.
The group drew an estimated 11,400 people to the fairgrounds’ event center in Redmond, breaking the all-time attendance record there. (Styx is second with 11,200 in 2010.) And since no other venue in the region is bigger — Les Schwab Amphitheater’s biggest crowd ever is 8,005 for Jack Johnson — I think it’s safe to say there has never been a show with a larger attendance in Central Oregon.

The point? Well … the fair’s free shows are popular. There are always four, and they usually feature a mix of country and classic rock acts aimed squarely at a large swath of local music lovers.
So without further delay, here’s the 2013 lineup!
July 31 — Cheap Trick (kings of power-pop!)
Aug. 1 — Kip Moore (country, younger edition)
Aug. 2 — Aaron Tippin (country, older edition)
Aug. 3 — Kansas (classic rock, my wayward son)

Tickets will be free and available all over Central Oregon, but you must pay admission to the fair to go to the show. Find more info at www .expo.deschutes.org, and of course we’ll have more in GO! Magazine as the fair gets closer.
(At least one staff member here is a major Cheap Trick fanboy, FYI.)
