8 a.m. on HGTV, ‘‘Rose Parade 2013’’ — Airing on multiple channels, the 124th edition of the flower-festooned parade through Pasadena, Calif., has ‘‘Oh the Places You’ll Go!’’ — a Dr. Seuss title — as its theme. The grand marshal is someone who knows a thing or two about that: Dr. Jane Goodall, who went to Africa as a young woman to study chimpanzees and has spent the ensuing five decades raising awareness of the needs of the world’s vulnerable species.
2 p.m. on ESPN, ‘‘2013 Rose Bowl’’ — The Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., is the site of this BCS matchup between the Wisconsin Badgers from the Big Ten and the No. 6 Stanford Cardinal from the Pac-12. The 8-5 Badgers are making their third straight Rose Bowl appearance, though they’ll be without the head coach who got them there, Bret Bielema, who accepted a coaching job at Arkansas. Stanford beat UCLA for the Pac-12 title, and the Cardinal’s tough run defense will be tested by Wisconsin star runner Montee Ball.
5:30 p.m. on ESPN, ‘‘2013 Discover Orange Bowl’’ — Miami’s Sun Life Stadium is the site of the Orange Bowl matchup between the BCS No. 12 Florida State Seminoles of the ACC and the No. 15 Northern Illinois Huskies, the first team from the MAC to win a BCS bowl bid. While few give the Huskies much of a chance against the Seminoles — and few believe the Huskies deserve this berth over Oklahoma — NIU quarterback Jordan Lynch hopes to score an upset and prove doubters wrong.
8 p.m. on 5, 8, 12, ‘‘Betty White’s Off Their Rockers’’ — Think ‘‘Punk’d’’ with senior citizens. A four-episode minimarathon of this series, in which elderly folks play pranks on the younger generation, opens with this installment in which a gentleman has a strong reaction to a street musician, a patient in an ambulance attempts to escape, a supermarket shopper steals items from other people’s carts, a man on a mall bench has an attack of gas, and another falls asleep riding an electric scooter.
8 p.m. on DISC, ‘‘Dual Survival’’ — Season 3 kicks off with a special episode, ‘‘Unbraided,’’ followed by the season premiere. The series features two people with drastically different backgrounds and survival strategies taking on some of the planet’s most unforgiving terrain. Returning is Cody Lundin, and new this season is Joseph Teti. In each episode, the two men are dropped into a survival scenario, equipped only with the minimal gear that would have been carried in real-life situations.
9 p.m. on 6, 12, ‘‘NCIS: Los Angeles’’ — After a body bearing a Navy ID is linked to a case involving the smuggling of hazardous materials, Callen (Chris O’Donnell) and the team go to Mexico to investigate and assist in the search for the missing items in ‘‘Greed.’’ LL Cool J and Daniela Ruah also star.
