Oregon State University Extension Service will offer an online food-preservation class beginning Jan. 17. The six-week course, titled Preserve@Home, will teach individuals how to safely preserve a variety of food products.
Each lesson includes downloadable text, an online bulletin board to promote participant discussion, and a weekly online chat to interact with classmates and instructors. Topics include canning basics, freezing and drying, as well as foodborne illness and spoilage.
A hands-on lab segment of the class will be March 2 at the OSU Extension office in Redmond, and will cover how to can and dehydrate food.
The course is $50 plus supplemental material fees. The deadline to register is Thursday. Class size is limited.
