Exhibit highlights baseball in Bend

The Des Chutes Historical Museum will explore the history and love of baseball in Bend in a new exhibit called “Diamonds in the Desert: Baseball and Bend, 1900 to Present,” which opens today.

The display highlights new gifts to the museum’s collection as well as special items on loan from the Bend Elks and members of the Deschutes County Historical Society. Visitors can discover why Vince Genna was known as “Mr. Baseball” and who the Bend Rainbows were. They can learn about Ty Cobb’s visits to Bend, and more.

“Diamonds in the Desert” will run through the end of 2013 in the changing exhibit gallery. The Des Chutes Historical Museum, located at 129 NW Idaho Ave., is open 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Cost: $5 for general adult; $2 for ages 13 through 17; free for children 12 and younger with a paid adult.
