Ravens bring in Stokley, Clark — The Baltimore Ravens have bolstered their receiving corps, agreeing in principle to a contract with tight end Dallas Clark and re-signing wideout Brandon Stokley to a one-year contract. The team announced the deals Sunday. The 34-year old Clark has 474 catches for 5,322 yards and 50 touchdowns in 10 NFL seasons. The 37-year old Stokley was drafted by the Ravens in the fourth round of the 1999 draft and caught a touchdown during Baltimore’s win over the New York Giants in the 2001 Super Bowl. He has 384 catches for 5,224 yards and 39 touchdowns in 14 NFL seasons.

Bills’ Manuel impresses — EJ Manuel’s teammates and coaches were pretty darn impressed with their rookie quarterback. Buffalo’s first-round draft pick thought he could have done even more. Give him time. After completing 16 of 21 passes for 107 yards with one touchdown and a quarterback rating of 102.7, Manuel gave himself a “B” in his preseason debut — a solid mark after leading the Bills to a 44-20 victory Sunday at Indianapolis. “My main thing was I wanted to operate the offense like coach (Nathaniel) Hackett has taught us and get all the other guys in position,” Manuel said. “The veterans have done a great job of bringing me along and things like that. The main thing is just continuing to go out there and execute.”

USC WR Lee day-to-day — Southern California coach Lane Kiffin says wide receiver Marqise Lee has a bone bruise in the area around his right shoulder and is considered day-to-day. The All-American was banged up Friday at practice and missed the Trojans’ morning practice Saturday. He was back for the evening session, though without pads. Kiffin told reporters Saturday he expected Lee back in action soon and was relieved that it turned out to be not as serious as it looked.

Williams wins — Serena Williams insists it’s not as easy as it looks. The top-ranked woman breezed to her third Rogers Cup title Sunday in Toronto with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over unseeded Romanian Sorana Cirstea. This was her eighth WTA title of the year and the 54th of her career. She didn’t drop a set all week and lost only 22 games, almost half that total against third-seed Agnieszka Radwanska in a semifinal that proved her only real test in this U.S. Open tuneup. With the absence of top-five players Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka, and the early exit of Wimbledon champ Marion Bartoli, all because of injury, Williams faced few obstacles in her path to the title. “No tournament is ever easy, especially being in the position I am in,” she said. “The tournament starts and they expect you to win. And the tournament is like, ‘You’re going to be in the final and after your semifinal I want you to do this, and you have to do this and this press.’ Who knows if I’ll even make it to the semifinals? It’s a lot of pressure. It’s not easy.”

Nadal takes title — Rafael Nadal beat Milos Raonic 6-2, 6-2 on Sunday in the Rogers Cup final in Montreal, spoiling Raonic’s bid to become the first Canadian winner in the event in 55 years. Robert Bedard, the last Canadian to win what was then called the Canadian Open in 1955, was in attendance to see Nadal claim his third Rogers Cup title. The Spanish star also won in 2005 and 2008. Raonic was the first Canadian since the now 81-year-old Bedard even to reach the final. Nadal, playing his first tournament since a first-round loss at Wimbledon in June, posted his eighth tournament win this year and the 58th of his career. On Saturday night in the semifinals, Nadal beat two-time defending champion Novak Djokovic 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (2).
