Donald Roe Sutherland

July 8, 1929 – July 19, 2013

Donald Roe Sutherland was born July 8, 1929, in Lewistown, MT, to Joe and Reatha Sutherland-Groff. He passed July 19, 2013, from a short battle with Cancer.

He is survived by his wife, Jo Anne; daughter, Carol (Robert) Glenn; grandchildren, Garret, and Devyn Glenn; stepsons, Kirk (Lottie) Holcomb and Kent (Lori) Holcomb; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

He was proceeded in death by brother, Dean; daughters, Sheri; and stepdaughter, Connie.

He proudly served in the military during the Korean Conflict.

Don attended college at Boise Jr. College and received his masters at the College of Idaho.

His teaching career from 1960-1989, was at Ontario, OR. He taught 7th graders English and social studies, and is remembered by his students for teaching them to diagram sentences!

He was instrumental in organizing the Malheur Teachers Credit Union and served on that board for 30 years.

He was a member of the Ontario Methodist Church and was active in the Methodist Men’s group.

He married Jo Anne Holcomb in 1993, and moved to Madras, OR, where he was also very active in the Madras Methodist Church and men’s organization there. They moved to Redmond, OR, in 2000, where he became an active supporter of Boy’s and Girl’s Club.

Don enjoyed golf, reading WWII history, traveling, attending his grand- children’s school activities and being with his family. He will be missed by friends and family and for his hugs, smile, and root beer floats.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Boy’s and Girl’s Clubs of Central Oregon for the Jo Anne and Donald Sutherland Redmond Teen Center at 500 NW Wall St. Bend, OR 97701.
