Local artist displaying work near and far

Central Oregon artist Janice Druian has been invited to participate in Art from the Other Half of the West’s ninth annual exhibition at the Desert Caballeros Museum in Wickenberg, Ariz.

The show, opening today and continuing through May 5, will exhibit Druian’s acrylic painting “Just Passing Through.”

The exhibition is highly competitive and among the most widely recognized of its kind, honoring some 50 of the West’s top female artists with more than 200 pieces of art for display and purchase, according to a press release.

Druian’s work is also showing at the Borrego Springs Plein Air Invitational in Borrego Springs, Calif., this month. It’s her third year participating in the juried show, which includes several days of plein air painting, a quick draw competition and gala opening with judging of works completed the previous week.

Druian’s art will appear in an exhibit at the Pronghorn Resort opening in May and at the Sunriver Resort in July. Tumalo Art Co. in Bend’s Old Mill District and Clearwater Gallery in Sisters also represent her artwork.

Fundraisers for Broadway-bound pair

Two young Bend actors, Miya Corpstein, 11, and Macy Pofahl, 10, have been accepted into a Broadway Artists Alliance Summer Intensive Workshop, which takes place in New York in July.

The actors, who have performed in many local productions, will attend master classes in acting and voice, and will choose from among more than 30 electives to further develop their talents. The girls will receive private coaching, attend a Broadway show and participate in a special class taught by a Tony Award winner.

The cost to attend the workshops, including airfare and hotel, is more than $3,200 per family. A fundraising garage sale will be held from 8-11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at 19538 Sugar Mill Loop in Bend. An online fundraising campaign is also underway at www.gofundme.com/7ezsfw.
