Summit boys lead

REDMOND — Jack Loberg, Ryan Blackwell and Declan Watts each shot 3-over-par 75 on Monday to help Summit end the first day of the Class 5A Special District 1 boys golf championships in first place with a score of 301.
Ashland’s Matt Hedges and Bend High’s Ryan DeCastilhos are tied atop the individual standings of the two-day tournament at Juniper Golf Course with a 73. Loberg, Blackwell and Watts are tied for third and their Storm teammate Max Higlin is fourth (76).
The Lava Bears are in second place at 309, with Eagle Point (330 strokes), Mountain View (347) and Redmond (379) rounding out the team scores. The top two teams advance to next week’s 5A state tournament at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks.

BASEBALL
Bend 10, Mountain View 4: Dalton Hurd struck out 10 and allowed just five hits to lead the Lava Bears (11-2 league, 19-5 overall) to the Intermountain Conference win at Mountain View. Creighton Simmonds had three hits for Bend and J.J. Spitler added a pair of RBIs. Cody Anthony paced the Cougars (5-8 IMC, 7-14) with two hits.
Redmond 7, Ridgeview 6: REDMOND — The visiting Ravens (18-4 overall) rallied for five runs in the seventh inning, but Redmond held on for the Intermountain Hybrid win. A two-run double by Tyler Ross was the big hit in Ridgeview’s late uprising. Keeton Breitbach was the winning pitcher with 4 1/3 innings of scoreless work. Hayden Smith led Redmond (11-13) with three hits and four stolen bases. Derek Brown had two hits, two runs and two steals for the winners, and Ben Burroughs hit a two-run single in the first inning.
Summit 11, Crook County 0: Cal Waterman went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, Josh Cherry was 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs and Chris Mason struck out six batters in three innings to lead the Storm (12-9) to the Intermountain Hybrid win at Summit. Spencer Copeland doubled for the Cowboys (5-18).
Sisters 11, Junction City 1: JUNCTION CITY — Sisters rolled to its 13th straight win as Justin Harrer and Austin Ogilvie combined on a six-inning two-hitter. Alex Olivier led a 13-hit attack for the Outlaws (13-0 Sky-Em League, 19-2 overall) with two hits and three RBIs. Jardon Weems had two hits and two RBIs and Ryan Funk and Harrer had two hits apiece.
Elmira 21, La Pine 5: LA PINE — The host Hawks led 5-0 after two innings and were headed for their first on-the-field Sky-Em League win of the season before 12 errors — all in the final three innings — doomed them. Tristan Cox had two hits, including a two-run double that highlighted a five-run second inning for La Pine (1-11, 2-20). James Lindsley also had two hits for the Hawks, who were awarded a forfeit win over Elmira last week.
Estacada 12, Madras 2: ESTACADA — The Rangers broke open the Tri-Valley Conference contest with a five-run third inning en route to the five-inning win. Broc Sanders had two bunt singles to lead the way for the White Buffaloes (0-13 TVC, 4-19 overall).
Culver 12, East Linn Christian 0: LEBANON — Adam Knepp led the way for the Bulldogs (10-5 Class 4A Special District 2, 12-8 overall) with six strikeouts, allowing one hit on five innings. Kyle Bender was 3 for 4 with a triple and four RBIs, Clay McClure was 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, and Mack Little was 3 for 4.
BOYS GOLF
La Pine 14 shots back: BLUE RIVER — La Pine’s Isiah Dolan and Sam Wieber had their best rounds of the season on the first day of the Class 4A Sky-Em League championships at Tokatee Golf Club. Dolan led the Hawks with an 82 followed by Zach Smith (87) and Sam Wieber (90). La Pine is in third place with a 375.
Ridgeview ahead after day one: REDMOND — Jimi Seely led the way for Ridgeview with a 77 at the Class 4A Greater Oregon League championships at Eagle Crest Ridge Course. Seely is in second place behind Baker’s Brandon Ellwanger, who shot an even-par 72. Ridgeview’s Jacob Kinzer and Chad Roe both shot 83 and are tied for sixth, while the Ravens are in first place in a field of six with 329 strokes. Crook County is in third at 344.
GIRLS GOLF
Ravens and Cowgirls neck-and-neck: BLUE RIVER — Ridgeview sits in first, one stroke ahead of Crook County, after the first day of the Class 4A/3A/2A/1A Special District 5 championships at Tokatee Golf Club. Tianna Brown led the way for the Ravens with an 89 followed by Raelynn Lambert who finished with a 96. Ridgeview finished the day with 404 strokes. Crook County totaled 405 after Caitlin Dalton shot a 92. Trinity Lutheran’s Victoria Sample atop the individual leader board with an 86.
SOFTBALL
Ridgeview 15, Redmond 13: REDMOND — The cross-town rivals combined for a total of 26 hits, but it was Ridgeview (16-4 overall) who took the Intermountain Hybrid win. The Ravens’ Zoe Lash and Sara McKinney each had their first career home runs with four RBIs apiece, while Shawna Marshall was 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. For the Panthers (7-17), Savannah O’Neil was 3 for 5 with a double and three RBIs, Kaitlin Ross was also 3 for 5 with a double, Kiahna Brown was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Sarah Matlock finished with three RBIs.
Madras 12, Estacada 4: MADRAS — The White Buffaloes jumped to an 8-0 lead on their way to a Tri-Valley Conference victory over the Rangers. Jasmyn Reese threw seven innings for Madras (6-6 TVC, 10-12 overall) and struck out nine. Offensively she added two hits and two RBIs. Shelby Mauritson had three hits and an RBI and Celeste Morning Owl went 4 for 4.
Elmira 14, La Pine 1: ELMIRA — Keara Parrish went 2 for 2 with an RBI but the Hawks (0-13, 6-17) gave up 10 runs with two outs in the Sky-Em League contest.
BOYS TENNIS
Ravens, Cowboys advance to semis: ONTARIO — Ridgeview moved two doubles teams and one singles player to today’s semifinal round of the Class 4A/3A/2A/1A Special District 5 championships. Caleb Maxwell and Gabe Payne did not drop a set in their two wins. They will play teammates Chase Bennett and Brandon Huff for a spot in the district finals. The Ravens’ Brett Blundell also advanced to today’s semis. Blundell rallied and defeated Crook County’s Jack Stubblefield 0-6, 6-1, 6-0 in the quarterfinal round. The Cowboys sent Pedro De Souza in singles and the doubles team of Garrett Harper and Leonhard Pusl to the semis. All semifinal participants clinched berths to next weekend’s state tournament in Corvallis.
Outlaw singles, doubles move on: MEDFORD — Sisters’ Paul Fullhart is headed back to the Class 4A/3A/2A/1A state tournament for the third time and teammates Evan Rickards and Devon Calvin punched their ticket to state as well at the Special District 3 championships at South Medford High School. Both Fullhart and the duo of Rickards and Calvin cruised through their respective brackets and won quarterfinal matches to assure a top-four finish at the district championships.
Girls Tennis
Locals win quarters: ONTARIO — Crook County’s Elsa Harris easily won her two matches on the first day of the Class 4A/3A/2A/1A Special District 5 championships. Harris along with the Cowgirls’ doubles duo of Laura Fraser and Gwyneth Ptomey earned state berths with their quarterfinal victories. Ridgeview advanced three entrants to next week’s state tourney in Corvallis. Ravens’ singles players Riley Hanks and Cailin Carr won both of their matches Monday, as did Ridgeview’s No. 1 doubles team of Rhian Sage and Makena Jordison, all of whom will play in the tournament semifinals today.
