FOOTBALL
Beavers announce game time vs. USC — Oregon State football fans will have another late night coming up. The school announced its Sept. 27 game at Southern California is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN. It will mark the third game in a row the Beavers will have a 7:30 p.m. PDT start, including this Saturday’s home game against San Diego State.
GOLF
Woods says strength back, but not swing — Tiger Woods says he has his strength back. The next task is to find a new swing. Woods has not competed in five weeks since missing the cut at the PGA Championship. With a season full of back troubles, Woods decided to take the rest of the year off before he returns to competition Dec. 4-7 at the Hero World Challenge. He says even though he is back to full strength physically, he still has not hit a golf ball.

FIFA president to be challenged — Former FIFA international relations director Jerome Champagne has confirmed his plan to challenge President Sepp Blatter in next year’s election. Champagne wrote on his campaign website Monday that he informed FIFA’s 209 member federations and the election supervisor, Domenico Scala, of his decision. Blatter, the president since 1998, has said he intends to announce his candidacy next week in Zurich after meeting FIFA’s executive committee.

Columbia criticized over ‘unacceptable’ uniforms — Flesh-colored uniforms worn by a Colombian women’s cycling team were “unacceptable,” according to the International Cycling Union president. The uniform, with a flesh-colored section between stomach and thighs, was worn by IDRD-Bogota Humana-San Mateo-Solgar riders at the Tour of Tuscany in Italy over the weekend. UCI President Brian Cookson wrote on his Twitter account that “it is unacceptable by any standard of decency.” “The UCI will be sending a letter to the Colombian federation reminding them of their responsibility … in the control of regional and club team kits that compete in international events,” it said in a statement.
BASKETBALL
U.S. women top Canada in exhibition — Nneka Ogwumike scored 10 points to lead a balanced offense and the U.S. women’s basketball team used a big run in the third quarter to beat Canada 76-51 on Monday night in an exhibition game at Bridgeport, Connecticut. The Americans led 35-31 at halftime, and then scored the first 13 points of the third. Tina Charles, who was scoreless in the first half, had seven points during the game-changing spurt. Maya Moore added a nifty reverse layup and the Americans were off and running. By the time Katherine Plouffe, the former Marquette player, hit a layup 6:30 into the quarter to end the run, the U.S. led 48-31. Plouffe had 14 points for Canada.
