Two Bend women died Sunday morning when their cars collided at a southeast Bend intersection.
Erica Lynn Blackwell, 41, and Carla Jean Conners, 55, both were killed in the 7:44 a.m. crash at Murphy and Brosterhous roads, according to the Bend Police Department. They were the only people involved in the wreck.
Blackwell was driving a silver 2006 Mercedes east on Murphy Road and Conners was driving a silver 2011 Nissan sports utility vehicle north on Brosterhous Road, according to police.
Where Murphy Road intersects Brosterhous Road there is a T and a stop sign for eastbound traffic.
Following an initial investigation police determined Blackwell was driving at a high rate of speed and did not stop at the stop sign, according to a Sunday press release. The Mercedes smashed into the driver’s door of the Nissan.
Both vehicles came to rest in a road construction site on the opposite side of Brosterhous Road from Murphy Road. The intersection was closed much of the day, with tow trucks not loading up the wrecked car and SUV until about 3:45 p.m.
The Bend Police Department, which responded to the crash with the Bend Fire Department, is asking anyone who observed either the car or SUV before the crash to call 541-693-6911 and ask to speak to an officer.
