The Bangles play Portland

In the 1980s, The Bangles taught us how to “Walk Like an Egyptian” and lamented with us over the dreaded “Manic Monday.” Thirty years later, guitarists Susanna Hoffs and Vicki Peterson and drummer Debbi Peterson return to the stage to promote their new album, “Sweetheart of the Sun.”

The all-female rock band will play a show Nov. 6 at the Roseland Theater in Portland.

The Peterson sisters and Hoffs formed The Bangles in Brentwood, Calif., in 1981, according to the band’s official website, focusing on a sound “based on two crucial elements: their common love for rock’s golden age, and the crystalline sound they quite naturally created when they blended their voices.”

Along with “Walk like an Egyptian” and “Manic Monday” (penned by Prince), their hits include “A Hazy Shade of Winter” and “Eternal Flame.” Although they split up at the height of their career in 1988, the Petersons and Hoff reunited in 1998.

“Sweetheart of the Sun” was released Sept. 27, their first album in eight years.

Inspired by ’60s-era music, the 12-track album deals with “the hidden underbelly of life in sunny Southern California and explores the bandmembers’ personal journeys as wives, mothers and musicians,” according to the website.

Ticket prices are $22.50 for general admission and $35 for the reserved balcony. To purchase tickets, visit www.ticketswest.com or call 800-992-8499. For more information on The Bangles, visit www.thebangles.com
