Ghanell Annrenee Lightner-Christensen
Feb. 11, 2003
Ghanell Annrenee Lightner-Christensen of Bend died Feb. 11 shortly after birth.
A private service was held.
Survivors include her parents, Jacob Christensen and Jennifer Lightner of Bend; and grandparents, Ron and Donna Lightner of Bend.

Leslie Rachelle Griffin
Aug. 12, 1962 – Feb. 12, 2003
Leslie Rachelle Griffin of Bend died Feb. 12 of natural causes. She was 40.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hinterland Ranch near Sisters.
Ms. Griffin was born Aug. 12, 1962, in Napa, Calif., to Larry and Ruth (Finley) Griffin. She attended Redmond High School.
She worked as a horse handler.
Ms. Griffin was affiliated with Deschutes 4-H and her high school rodeo club.
She loved all animals, especially horses.
Survivors include her parents of Bend; two brothers, Gary Griffin of Bend and Robert Griffin of Sisters; two sisters, Tammie Palmer and Connie Benger, both of Crooked River Ranch; and grandfather, Donald Griffin of Napa, Calif.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be to the Leslie Griffin Memorial Account at any U.S. Bank.
Deschutes Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Wanda Wave Cox
June 4, 1926 – Feb. 13, 2003
Wanda Wave Cox of Prineville died Thursday. She was 76.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at Whispering Pines Funeral Home in Prineville.
Mrs. Cox was born June 4, 1926, in St. Louis, Mo., to William and Hazel (Jennings) Chrisco. She married Denton Cox on July 11, 1945, in St. Louis.
She worked in a photographer’s shop tinting photos before her marriage. She and her husband worked in several logging towns in Oregon and Washington before moving to John Day in 1959. They moved to Prineville in 1966.
Mrs. Cox was affiliated with the Lookout Rebekah Lodge and Carnation Chapter of Eastern Star.
She enjoyed reading, crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her son, Dennis of Prineville; one daughter, Kathleen Cardin of Prineville; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, her parents and a sister.
Memorial contributions may be made to Pioneer Memorial Hospice or American Cancer Society.

William Billy’ David Vargas
Nov. 27, 1955 – Feb. 13, 2003
William ”Billy” David Vargas of Spokane, Wash., died Thursday. He was 47.
A funeral service will be held at noon Wednesday at Redmond Memorial Chapel.
Mr. Vargas was born Nov. 27, 1955, in Oakland, Calif. He grew up in Redmond.
He attended the Air Force Academy and served in the Air Force as an instructor of operations and rocket design.
Mr. Vargas was inducted into the China Post of the American Legion, ”Chenalts Flying Tigers”.
Survivors include his father, Donald of Hayward, Calif.; mother, Martha Joan Cara of Redmond; a daughter, Rigel Vargas of Spearfish, S.D.; two brothers, Clayton Jackson of Sherwood and John of Spokane, Wash.; and a sister, Ruth Easley of Spokane, Wash.

Ruth Call
June 9, 1910 – Feb. 11, 2003
Ruth Call of Dallas died Feb. 11 of natural causes. She was 92.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Niswonger, Reynolds and Tabor Funeral Home in Bend.
Mrs. Call was born June 9, 1910, in Rossville, Kan., to Joseph and Fay Hoofset. She graduated from Bend High School in 1928. She married Carson Call in 1928 in Bend.
She was a homemaker and worked on the family farm. Mrs. Call had a second 20-year career with the Deschutes County Library. She retired in 1973.
Mrs. Call was affiliated with Eastern Star Grange.
She enjoyed knitting, sewing and reading. She liked music and played the mandolin and organ. She also enjoyed taking care of her home and yard.
Survivors include her son Donald of Bellingham, Wash.; three daughters, Joan Cyrus of Salem, Judith Esrig of Dallas and Susan Haugen of West Sacramento, Calif.; one sister, Mabel Lentz of Dallas; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a great-grandchild.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
