Support Jefferson jail levy

We need your help, Jefferson County! Community members from public safety, local businesses owners, teachers, and other community members have come together to help pass the sheriff’s jail operating levy. The political action committee Citizens for a Safer Jefferson County was formed for this purpose.
Here are some facts: 1) This is not a new tax. It simply renews the existing levy at the current rate for 3 more years. The current levy expires June 30. 2) Jefferson County has experienced the lowest crime rate per 1,000 persons in Central Oregon the past decade that prior to the jail opening was the highest in Central Oregon. Criminals soon found out that committing crimes in Jefferson County had real consequences.
If the levy fails, more than half the current inmate population will be released and more than half of the corrections staff will be laid off. This, we feel, will make Jefferson County less safe and is unacceptable. If you feel the same way, please vote yes to continue your support of public safety. If you want to get involved or want more information please come to our weekly meetings at the Black Bear in Madras each Monday from 5-6:30 p.m. until Election Day.
