Oxford Hotel hosts Ron Steen’s jazz band

The Oxford Hotel’s inaugural “Jazz at The Oxford” series was initially scheduled for four holiday weekends in the first half of 2011, including a killer final set of shows featuring the Ron Steen Band over Memorial Day weekend.

Now, the series has been extended to include two June 17 performances by Jeff Lorber and Patrick Lamb, and Steen’s band will still be in town for three shows over the next three days. Everybody wins!

Ron Steen is as patriarchal a figure as you’ll find in Portland’s jazz scene. He started playing when he was 12 and was jamming in public by 15. In the decades since, he has become known as one of the region’s top drummers, hosting countless jam sessions, doing in-demand session work, and steering jazz bands just about every night of the week in Portland clubs.

At press time, there were still tickets available for Steen’s three shows, but previous “Jazz at The Oxford” shows have sold out, so if you’re interested in going, don’t hesitate.

Ron Steen Band ; 8 p.m. tonight and Saturday, 11:30 a.m. Sunday; $25 advance and $30 at the door tonight, $30 advance and $35 at the door Saturday, $39 advance and $44 at the door Sunday (includes brunch). Advance tickets available at www .bendticket.com; The Oxford Hotel, 10 N.W. Minnesota Ave., Bend; www.oxfordhotelbend .com or 541-382-8436.
