Write to grieving families

We Bendites arguably live and work in one of the most charming rural and family-oriented communities in America.

Newtown, Conn., is known for the same.

I am thinking it would be a good gesture, town to town, if we from Bend could send condolences to the families who have lost so much. It is going to be an unimaginably difficult Christmas for the families of the victims. It is troubling to fathom how difficult it is for these families, as they face the holidays without their loved ones. I think of those presents that have been bought, quite possibly wrapped, but will remain unopened by their intended recipients. As we imagine how it must be for them, our hearts are broken. I find relief by hugging my grandchildren, and count my blessings they are safe in their homes, with their families.

Will you join me, my friends and neighbors, in sending a card or letter to these grieving families? It isn’t much, but it’s something we together could do, city to city, family to family.
