2 in custody after pursuit, standoff

Oregon State Police and Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies took two people into custody Sunday morning after they attempted to hide in a Metolius home.

The pursuit began at approximately 7 a.m. Sunday, when an OSP trooper tried to stop the driver of a 1992 Honda sedan who allegedly disobeyed a stop sign south of Madras, according to an OSP news release.

The driver, Brent Waldorf, 23, of Madras, attempted to get away from the trooper and drove through fields and streets in Metolius for about 10 minutes before abandoning the car in an alley. Waldorf and a female passenger allegedly fled on foot and hid in a home on Washington Street in Metolius.

Troopers contacted the homeowners, who confirmed Waldorf and the unidentified woman were hiding in the home, according to OSP. Police believed Waldorf had outstanding warrants and might be armed. State troopers brought in SWAT teams from Central Oregon and the Willamette Valley to respond to the situation, and they also received help from Warm Springs Police and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The SWAT teams entered the home and took Waldorf and the woman into custody shortly after 10 a.m. Troopers arrested Waldorf on outstanding felony warrants in connection with attempting to elude law enforcement in a vehicle in Wasco County and violating the traffic law in Jefferson County, according to a news release. Troopers did not identify the 23-year-old woman from Warm Springs. Police believe Waldorf and the woman also set a fire in the home, but it was extinguished.

Oregon State Police spokesman Lt. Gregg Hastings confirmed in an email Sunday that the two suspects were arrested.
