Culver’s Mote ties for rodeo victory

LAS VEGAS — Culver bareback rider Bobby Mote scored 84 points on Sunday night to tie Tim O’Connell, of Zwingle, Iowa, for first place during the fourth round of the National Finals Rodeo. Mote, riding Raylee’s Raisin Cain, split the first-and second-place purse with O’Connell and added $17,010.21 to his account, allowing him to move up to fourth overall in the world standings ($128,563) behind leader Kaycee Field ($195,370), who finished out of the money with a ride of 80.5. Terrebonne’s Austin Foss finished tied for third Sunday night in bareback with Tilden Hooper, of Carthage, Texas, as each earned $9,654. Foss is currently in third place in the world standings ($143,405).
Redmond bareback rider Steven Peebles did not compete Sunday after he was injured during Saturday night’s third round with a mid-thoracic spine compression fracture. Peebles, who was second in the world standings, will miss the remainder of the event.
Powell Butte header Brandon Beers, along with teammate Jim Ross Cooper, of Monument, New Mexico, finished tied for fourth in team roping in the fourth round with a time of 4.6 seconds. They tied Erich Rogers and Cory Petska and all will cash a check for $6,436. Beers currently sits in seventh in the world standings ($97,267). Prineville header Charly Crawford finished out of the money in team roping Sunday and is in 11th place ($86,577) in the world standings.
Trevor Knowles, of Mount Vernon, clocked a time of 4 seconds in steer wrestling and finished third ($11,340), matching his third-place ranking in the world standings.
The fifth round of the 10-day event begins at 7 tonight at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. The final round will take place on Saturday.
