Class 5A
Bend
Head Coach: Grant Ludwick (eighth season)
2014: Finished fourth at the Class 5A Special District 1 championships.
Outlook: Junior Sean Hebert will play at the No. 1 singles position for the Lava Bears, while the top four doubles players from last season (Zach Hite, Max Farrens, Will Ainsworth and Aaron Banquer-Glenn) have all returned. “This team is one of the more experienced teams that I have had in my eight years as the coach, and I look for us to compete very well from top to bottom,” coach Grant Ludwick said. “We are certainly hoping to send at least a couple of kids to state this year.”
Mountain View
Head Coach: Brad Soto (third season)
2014: Team finished third at the Class 5A Special District 1 championships.
Outlook: Coach Brad Soto says the Cougars will be lead by seniors Derek Miller, Brooks Larrenta and Albert Kolodziejczyk while sophomore Grant miller and junior Adi Wolfenden will also be key to Mountain View’s success.
Redmond
Head Coach: Jim Ferguson (eighth season)
2014: Team tied for seventh at the Class 5A Special District 1 championships.
Outlook: Longtime friends Blaine Biondi and T.J. Smith, a transfer from Ridgeview, have teamed up and will serve as the Panther’s No. 1 doubles team this season. Noah Fitzsimmons, who attends Central Christian, will play No. 1 singles for Redmond, while coach Jim Ferguson says he also expects contributions from Dakota Schmidt and Joan Gutierrez.
Ridgeview
Head Coach: Todd Neville (third season)
2014: Team tied for 12th at the Class 4A/3A/2A/1A state championships.
Outlook: The Ravens lost all four of last season’s state qualifying doubles players to graduation, but Brett Blundell, who qualified for the 4A/3A/2A/1A singles draw, is back for the Raves’ first year as a member of the 5A Midwestern League.
Summit
Head Coach: Josh Cordell (14th season)
2014: Finished first at the Class 5A Special District 1 tournament and claimed a share of the Class 5A state title.
Outlook: The Storm have lost Liam Hall and Garen Gasporovic, who finished second in the 5A state doubles draw, but their four other state qualifiers are back and ready to defend their title.
Class 4A/3A/2A/1A
Crook County
Head Coach: Jonny Oelkers (first season)
2014: Team finished ninth at the Class 4A/3A/2A/1A state championship.
Outlook: State qualifier Pedro DeSouza graduated after the 2014 season, but Garrett Harper has returned to the Cowboys after making it the quarterfinals of the state doubles tournament with Leonard Pusl, a German exchange student who attended Crook County last spring.
Madras
Head Coach: Margaret Kincaid (10th season)
2014: No players qualified for the Class 4A/3A/2A/1A state championship.
Outlook: The White Buffaloes lost just two players to graduation last year, and coach Margaret Kincaid says her roster has been replenished with plenty of young talent. She expects Oved Felix to take over the No. 1 singles position, while Jered Pichette and Obie Eriza have shown promise at No. 1 doubles.
Sisters
Head Coach: Bim Gander (third season)
2014: Team finished second at the Class 4A/3A/2A/1A Special District 3 tournament and seventh at the Class 4A/3A/2A/1A state championship
Outlook: Coach Bim Gander said his team has 16 or 17 new players this year, including their No. 1 singles player Colin Reinert, a transfer student from Cologne, Germany. The Outlaws need the influx of new blood after losing six seniors to graduation.
