The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office will hold a shredding event Saturday in La Pine.

Shredding will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the La Pine substation, 51340 U.S. 97. Each person can shred up to four medium boxes of personal documents for free; the event is not meant for business or company disposal of documents. The shredding equipment can destroy paper clips, staples, file folders and binders.

A deputy will also be there to collect outdated or unwanted prescription medication, but no needles or over-the-counter drugs will be accepted.

The sheriff’s office asks participants to consider donating a nonperishable food for the La Pine Community Kitchen. The office and Mid Oregon Credit Union will provide information to avoid becoming an identity theft victim and steps to take if identity theft is already suspected.
