The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office will provide free document shredding and safe drug disposal for the public Saturday in La Pine.
Residents can stop by the shredding event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the La Pine substation, 51340 U.S. Highway 97. Each participant can bring up to four medium boxes of personal documents. Documents don’t need to be sorted in advance because the equipment can handle paper clips, staples, file folder and binders.
The sheriff’s office and Mid Oregon Credit Union will offer tips on how to prevent identity theft and what to do in case it happens.
Residents can also drop off expired or other unwanted prescription medication, excluding needles and over-the-counter drugs, for safe disposal. The drug disposal program helps keep unused medications from abusers, children and animals. It also aims to lessen the environmental impact of disposed of drugs on water, soil and landfills.
Participants are asked to consider donating a nonperishable food item at the event that will go to the La Pine Community Kitchen.
