A Redmond teenage couple, both 17, were arrested last week on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder in an incident involving the boy’s mother.
Dakota Ortwein and Reyanne West are accused of trying to kill Ortwein’s mother, Shasta Ortwein, on Thursday in the family’s home in Redmond, according to the Deschutes County District Attorney’s Office.
According to Hummel, Ortwein and West are boyfriend and girlfriend.
A grand jury is considering evidence and potential charges against Ortwein and West, according to a news release from DA John Hummel. Ballot Measure 11 requires a 17-year-old to be prosecuted as an adult for an attempted murder charge. A charging decision from the grand jury is expected by the next court hearing, 1:30 Friday, the release said.
Ortwein and West were arraigned Friday and are being held on $250,000 bail at the Deschutes County juvenile detention facility.
Ortwein faces charges of conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder and second-degree assault, according to a preliminary charging document. West faces charges of conspiracy to commit murder and second-degree assault.
Both teens are from Redmond, court documents indicate.
