MADRAS — Late in the match, as a scrum broke out in the penalty area in front of the Molalla goal, Jonathan Reynoso got enough of a foot on the ball for a score to propel Madras to a 2-1 Tri-Valley Conference boys soccer win Thursday.

“It was ugly to look at,” White Buffaloes coach Clark Jones said of Reynoso’s goal, “but it showed how much effort he put in and a real will to win.”

After a scoreless first half, Andres Acuna scored off an Alex Diaz cross to give Class 4A No. 8-ranked Madras (6-0 TVC, 7-2 overall) a 1-0 lead. Molalla evened the score five minutes later, but Reynoso’s late goal earned the Buffs their seventh straight win.

“We haven’t beaten Molalla twice in a season in years,” Jones said. “They’re a skilled team. It was a close game the whole way. It reminds me an awful lot of the playoff games in the past.”
