Crooked River Ranch fire claims garage, coop

A Tuesday night fire in Crooked River Ranch significantly burned a detached garage and a chicken coop, causing an estimated $100,000 worth of damage.

Homeowner Sue Miller looked out her window to see a large blaze outside her house at 15240 SW Quail Road. Firefighters were called at 11:27 p.m., after which Miller and her daughter were able to move several vehicles from the area around the fire. The nearby house was not damaged.

Crooked River Ranch Fire and Rescue, Redmond Fire and Rescue, Jefferson County Fire District 1 and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office all arrived on the scene to see the garage fully engulfed in flames. Crews spent an hour fighting the fire and were able to keep it from spreading, but the garage and coop are considered a total loss. Firefighters remained on scene overnight to put out hot spots.

The cause of the fire is unknown and an investigation is ongoing.

This was the second fire at Crooked River Ranch on Tuesday Firefighters also responded to a fire in a bedroom earlier in the day. That fire was caused by a space heater.
