Humane Society of Central Oregon Thrift & Furniture Store
Well before Macklemore & Ryan Lewis sang that they were “gonna pop some tags” in their hit “Thrift Store,” the popularity of recycling and upcycling just about anything was on the rise.
Central Oregon’s destination of choice for gently recycled goods is the Humane Society of Central Oregon Thrift & Furniture Store (hsco.org/thrift-stores) on South U.S. Highway 97 in Bend. In addition to clearing space in your closet or finding a great deal on a fabulous retro coat or second-hand sofa, animal lovers can also feel good about donating or shopping there, knowing the store’s proceeds help fund the HSCO animal shelter.
Goodwill
Second place goes to Goodwill (goodwill.org) with storefronts in Bend and Redmond, as well as several other drop off locations throughout the area that make it easy to donate unused or unwanted items. Goodwill’s proceeds benefit its national education, training and jobs programs.
Second Tern Thrift Shop
In third place is another store where you can feel good about shopping: Second Tern Thrift Shop (secondtern.com) in Sunriver. In operation for more than 20 years, Second Tern supports the Sunriver Nature Center and Oregon Observatory and also provides emergency assistance to local families in the event of disasters.
