Free yard waste disposal in Central Oregon

Thursday marked the beginning of Wildfire Awareness Month in Oregon and to help encourage Bend residents prepare for wildland fires, FireFree partnered with Deschutes County Department of Solid Waste and Deschutes Recycling to allow Free Yard Debris Recycling Days at Knott Landfill and area Transfer Stations to collect flammable yard debris. FireFree, a Deschutes County program to help communities prepare for fire season, is hosting multiple debris disposal events across Central Oregon.
The upcoming events will offer free yard debris disposal to help residents create and maintain space around their homes that is defensible from fire.
FireFree events will be held at the following times and locations:
• Bend — 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Westside Collection Site, 19755 SW Simpson Ave. (Between Century Drive and Mount Washington Drive)
• Redmond — 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 2-3 at Negus Transfer Station, 2400 NE Maple Way.
• Sisters — 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 2-3 at Northwest Transfer Station, 68200 Fryrear Road, Cloverdale (Sisters).
• La Pine — 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 2-3 at Southwest Transfer Station, 54580 U.S. Highway 97.
• Crescent — 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 2-3 at Crescent Transfer Station, Crescent Cutoff Road.
• Chemult — 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 2-3 at Chemult Landfill off South U.S. Highway 97.
