Land use board rejects Widgi Creek townhomes

A proposed townhome development at Widgi Creek west of Bend was rejected Tuesday by the state Land Use Board of Appeals.

The board’s decision affirms an earlier one by the Deschutes County Board of Commissioners, which voted in December to reject a developers’ request to reconfigure the boundaries of a common area to create buildable lots. The development would have included 17 townhome-style units, built along the first fairway and in place of a now-shuttered swimming pool.

Homeowners associations at Widgi Creek objected to the proposal on the grounds that the property was originally designated as a common area that would not be developed.

Like the county before it, the land use board ruled the development would have been in violation of the 1983 master plan that capped the total number of residential units at Widgi Creek at 210.
