Snowcross shoes provide grip for running on icy trails

How serious are you about running in the ice and snow?

For those who do want to run year-round on trails that haven’t been cleared of the muck, the Salomon Snowcross 2 is the running shoe for you. It looks more like a cross-country ski boot than a running shoe, with a zippered upper/integrated gaiter that runs all the way up to high above your ankle. But this is a running shoe, specifically Salomon’s Speedcross trail running shoe underneath the covering. It’s got an aggressive outsole with plenty of grip to help you stick to the trail, and the waterproof upper keeps your feet nice and dry.

The ride is a bit stiffer than most running shoes, but that’s probably what you need under these conditions. They’re an excellent option for anyone who wants to go snowshoeing without wearing bulky winter boots.

The unisex shoes come in men’s sizes, and keep in mind that you’ll probably be wearing a thicker wool sock when sizing. For paved trails in the winter, this is probably overkill. But for those lucky enough to have access to snow-covered trails, these shoes will keep a smile on your face through the season.
