Two free events aimed at preventing and responding to hate in communities and schools will be held Monday and Tuesday at Central Oregon Community College.
Patrice O’Neill, executive director of the national organization Not In Our Town, will screen a film at 6 p.m. Monday in Wille Hall about how Northern California communities responded to hate.
Following the film Monday evening, a panel of local students will discuss bullying and hate in their schools. Deschutes County District Attorney John Hummel will provide welcoming remarks Monday night. The entire program will end at 8 p.m.
On Tuesday from 9 a.m. to noon, also in Wille Hall, O’Neill will lead a community workshop with civic leaders, community activists, teachers, students, counselors, elected officials, and law enforcement. The goal of the workshop will be to develop local proposals for stopping hate and creating a safe, inclusive community.
