Summit girls win penultimate OSSA race of 2018, but Bend leads boys and girls standings heading into final day

MOUNT BACHELOR — Summit’s Ava Lilley recorded the fastest girls run of the day by nearly three seconds to help the Storm girls claim the fastest combined team time in the slalom Friday, the seventh of eight Oregon School Ski Association race days, and narrow the Bend girls’ lead to eight points in the team standings.

On the boys side, Bend’s combined team time of 5 minutes, 42.98 seconds was nearly 11 seconds faster than second-place Summit, and the Lava Bears have a 14-point lead heading into Saturday’s eighth and final race of the season.

Lilley started the day with a blistering 57.43-second first slalom run on the Cliffhanger run at Mt. Bachelor ski area, and then recorded the second-fastest time in the second run for a combined time of 1:58.35 and 180 points in the individual standings.

Lilley’s teammate Keely Buchanan recorded two nearly identical runs, finishing third in the first run in 1:00.37 and first in the second at 1:00.41. Bend’s Dagny Donohue and Emma Jewett finished third and fourth, respectively, after combining the two runs.

Summit’s combined team time of 6:05.31 was worth 20 points in the team standings, while Bend recorded a time of 6:15.89, worth 18 points. The Lava Bears lead the Storm 132-124 with one giant slalom run left. Mountain View is third with 122 points.

Bend’s Colt Musgrave recorded the fastest first run for the boys at 51.09 seconds, with Willamette’s Wesley Georgiev and Summit’s Ty Zuber close behind at 52.41 and 52.82, respectively. After a rough first run, Oak Hill’s Kirill Myagkov recorded the fastest time in the second run at 55.46, and Musgrave was second in 55.67. After seven races, Bend leads Summit 140-126 in the boys team standings, and Mountain View is third with 110.

The final giant slalom race of the season will be held on the Cliffhanger run at Mount Bachelor starting at 10 a.m. Saturday.
