Basketball
Summit COBO team wins state championship — The Summit Storm sixth-grade boys team won the Oregon Middle School Basketball Championships with a 67-54 win over Wilson at the Deschutes County Expo Center in Redmond on March 11. Summit beat Grant Blue, the Lakeridge Pacers and the West Albany Bulldogs to win the 16-team Jefferson bracket and advance to the Gold division final. Mountain View lost to Wilson in the Bachelor bracket final and then lost to Canby, 62-59, in the sixth grade third-place game. No other Central Oregon teams reached the final or third-place game in their division at the boys tournament, which was held at multiple Central Oregon sites March 9-11. In the girls tournament held the previous weekend, Redmond lost to the Canby Cougars, 26-22, in the sixth grade Gold third-place game. The Madras girls lost to Liberty, 39-22, in the fifth grade Silver championship game, and the eighth grade Madras girls lost 26-15 to the Banks Braves in the Silver final. The seventh grade Madras girls lost to Liberty, 38-35, in the Silver division third-place game.
Soccer
Rush to hold spring break camp — Cascade Rush coaches will be leading a three-day camp for U10 through U14 soccer players March 27-29 at Three Sisters Adventist Christian School. The sessions will run from 5:30 to 7 p.m. each day. The first session will focus on attacking the goal, the second on one-on-one defending and the third on speed, agility and dribbling. Each evening will end with small-sided scrimmages. Registration costs $75 or $30 for one session. To sign up, email Donnie Emerson at donemerson6@gmail.com.

Up the Crooked River Duathlon to be held April 29 — The Up the Crooked River Duathlon will begin at Crooked River Park in Prineville at 10 a.m. on April 29. The event includes a 5K run, 40K bike, 5K run and 2-mile walk, 10-mile bike, 2-mile walk. Entry costs $30 for individuals and $60 for teams competing as a relay. Rugby
Roughriders win first two games of spring season — The Bend Rugby Club opened the spring season with a 53-10 win over the Eugene Stags at High Desert Middle School in Bend on March 10. Tommy Charles scored three tries for the Roughriders and Mike Gamm scored two. The Roughriders beat the 43rd State Crimson Lions 25-10 in Boise, Idaho, on Saturday. Kevin Wagner scored two tries against the Lions, and Levi Penter and Mike Gamm each scored once. The Roughriders improved to 9-2 overall and lead the Pacific Northwest Rugby Union Division 2 with a 7-0 league record. Bend will face Eastside, a team from Bellevue, Washington, Saturday at High Desert Middle School at 2 p.m.
Blues lose to Beaverton — The Bend Blues high school boys lost 41-19 to the Beaverton Barbarians Saturday at High Desert Middle School. Haakon Kjellesvik scored two tried and two conversions for the Blues and Nate Denny scored one try. The Blues next play the Clark County Warriors at Big Sky Park at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
