Dogs escape — Dogs escaped during a burglary at a canine-boarding facility in Salem. Salem police Lt. Treven Upkes says officers who responded to The Dog Bark early Wednesday found a shattered window and an open door. Kennels were open, and dogs roamed the neighborhood. Passers-by helped corral most of the missing dogs, but three were still on the loose.
Outdoor pot ban remains — The Oregon Court of Appeals has affirmed a Grants Pass ordinance that requires marijuana plants grown at home for personal use to be grown indoors. The City Council approved the ban on outdoor cultivation shortly after recreational marijuana became legal. The council members were concerned about offensive odors. An activist took the matter to court, saying the ordinance conflicts with a state law that prohibits a local government from enacting or enforcing local limits on the use of plant seeds. The Appeals Court agreed with a lower court that marijuana plants do not apply to that law.
