After an honorable discharge, Vern worked in Idaho, and then moved to Eastern Oregon. Vern worked for Boise Cascade (29 years) as a truck driver. Vern and his wife, Anita, moved to Powell Butte in summer of 1999. Vern finished his career driving for Consolidated Freight and High Desert Feed. He retired in 2004, staying busy by working a small cattle and horse operation on their property.
Vern is survived by his wife, Anita; daughter, Karma Ezell (Scott); daughter, Joan Fitzpatrick; son, John Dewey (Teressa); stepson, Michael Bones (Ashley); stepdaughter, Mindy Christiansen (C.W.); stepdaughter, Katie McDonald (Eric); son, Jeremy Dewey (Kristen).
