CORVALLIS — Oregon State men’s basketball guard Kendal Manuel has decided to transfer after three years with the program.
The university announced the decision Tuesday as a mutual agreement between head coach Wayne Tinkle and Manuel, a sophomore guard who played the past two seasons.
Manuel’s departure follows sophomore forward Ben Kone (transfer) last week; junior forward Drew Eubanks (NBA draft declaration) in late March; and sophomore point guard JaQuori McLaughlin last December, less than a month into the playing schedule.
That leaves Oregon State with four open scholarships, which it is expected to begin filling during the upcoming late signing period starting Wednesday.
The Beavers signed three post players — Kylor Kelley, Warren Washington and Jack Wilson — last November. Kelley, who has played at Northwest Christian University and Lane Community College, will be a junior next season. Washington and Wilson will be true freshmen.
Manuel, a native of Billings, Montana, played in 29 games this past season and averaged 2.6 points, 1.2 rebounds, 0.3 assists, 0.3 steals and 0.1 blocked shots in 10.7 minutes per game.
As a redshirt freshman he played in all 32 games and started 25, while averaging 7.8 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.1 blocked shots in 28.8 minutes per game. He made 52 3-pointers, the second-most by a freshman in Oregon State history.
He missed the 2015-16 season after breaking the fibula in his right leg during a practice.
