Since disbanding his eponymous group in 2012, contemporary Christian songwriter David Crowder has uprooted his life and his music, moving from Texas to Atlanta, Georgia, prior to the release of his 2014 solo debut, “Neon Steeple.” He’s described that album as “folktronica,” but it sounds downright traditional next to its follow-up, the genre-defying “American Prodigal.” Crowder describes “Neon Steeple” as being “incredibly, what do you call it? ‘White’” in his online bio; it sounds like he made an effort to step out of his comfort zones on “Prodigal,” which adds a touch of soul, funk and even hip-hop to the bluegrass-meets-electronica-meets-gospel of his previous work. This musical adventurousness helps elevate Crowder’s over typical worship songs — in other words, there is indeed something here for every music fan, even the most secular. You can hear for yourself at Bend Senior High School on Wednesday.
