Biofuels plant coming to Lakeview — Red Rock Biofuels says it’s ready to start construction on a new plant in south-central Oregon. The facility in Lakeview is expected to convert 136,000 tons of woody biomass and forest byproducts into 15 million gallons of renewable fuels annually. The Colorado-based company identified Lakeview as a target location because of its proximity to rail, highways, the Ruby natural gas pipeline and an abundance of forest bi-products to be collected and converted to jet fuel. Construction is estimated to take 18 months, with operations planned to start in 2020. The Red Rock facility is expected to create 30 jobs within the plant and up to another 100 positions for materials gathering and transport. Lakeview has a population of about 2,000 people, so the city may see in an influx of new residents.

Oregon art trail — The Oregon Coast Visitors Association plans a trail of public art that will serve as a cohesive guide to statues, murals and other works of art from Astoria to Brookings. There are only 10 cities along the coast without any form of public art. Pieces such as the Astoria Column and the tufted puffin sculpture in Cannon Beach would be included in a comprehensive map that would help visitors do a self-guided tour. It’s expected to be ready in 2019.

Teen shot in Salem — Police in Salem responded to reports of a shooting Monday morning and found a boy suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Authorities say they don’t believe the shooting happened where the teen was found by police. A nearby middle school was placed on lockdown, but police — who say the teen was taken to a hospital for treatment but didn’t give information on a suspect or motive — said there was no threat to the public.
