3 arrested for blocking ICE driveway — Federal officers arrested three people at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in southwest Portland. The arrests came as a group of clergy and others marched to the building Tuesday morning and blocked a driveway. The group sought a meeting with the regional ICE director and the release of more than 100 asylum seekers who are being held at a federal prison in Sheridan. Those arrested were charged with obstruction. KOIN-TV identified two of them as Rev. Michael Ellick and Rabbi Debra Kolodny. The arrests come two weeks after a 38-day, round-the-clock protest came to an end outside the facility.

Starving dog dies — The Marion County Sheriff’s Office says it’s looking for two men who left a starving Pomeranian at an animal shelter last week. The sheriff’s office said surveillance footage from Thursday night shows two men leaving the dog in a crate at the shelter entrance. The dog died the following day. An examination showed it died of maltreatment and emaciation. Those with information are asked to call the sheriff’s non-emergency line at 503-588-5032.

Man sentenced for intimidation — A Portland-area man who was accused of shouting threats at a Muslim couple he followed in his car was sentenced to anger management classes, 100 hours of community service and three years of probation. Fredrick Nolan Sorrell, 50, was sentenced Friday after pleading no contest in April to two misdemeanor counts of intimidation. Multnomah County Circuit Judge Benjamin Souede also ordered Sorrell to pay a $1,653 fine and have a meaningful discussion with Portland’s Muslim community. Sorrell apologized to the couple during his previous plea hearing, saying they didn’t deserve his hateful rant, which occurred in May 2017. Authorities said the Oregon chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations will organize Sorrell’s discussion with the Muslim community.
