Ewing

David and Heidi (Heidbrink) Ewing, of Bend, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary vacationing on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, where they met 50 1⁄2 years ago.

The couple were married Aug. 24, 1968, in Orlando, Florida. They have two children, Jim, of New York City, and Jennifer Ewing (and Peter) Berk, of San Diego, and four grandchildren.

Mr. Ewing was born and raised in Texas, graduated from the University of Texas in 1959, then joined the U.S. Navy.

He was stationed on the U.S.S. McMorris destroyer in Pearl Harbor in 1966. He retired as a captain after 30 years of service in 1989. Mrs. Ewing was born in Minneapolis, then moved to Florida with her family. She graduated from Loyola University’s dental hygiene program in 1965. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Honolulu, where she obtained her dental hygiene license and began working at the dental office at the submarine base in Pearl Harbor. Mrs. Ewing retired from the dental profession after 48 year in 2010.

They have lived in Central Oregon for 15 years.
