Mosbo

Joyce and J. Orville “Orv” Mosbo, of Bend, celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with a family celebration in the private dining room at Whispering Winds.

The couple were married Aug. 28, 1953, in Minneapolis. They have three children, Karen Gordon, of San Diego, Ann (Marc) Jackson, of Huntingtown, Maryland, and Lynnea (Brad) Miller, of Bend; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Mosbo attended seminary school and while interning in Grayland, Washington, met the future Mrs. Mosbo, who was working as a secretary in Seattle. Joyce credits her landlady for encouraging her to consider Orv as a potential husband, having discouraged her from any other man she had dated. On their first date, they both realized they had found the right person, and three months later were married.

Mr. Mosbo was a Lutheran pastor for 37 years, serving in Washington, Madras and California. He retired in 1990, serving as interim pastor in Portland and periodically in Sunriver. For 17 years in his retirement, he traveled extensively, teaching at Lutheran Bible schools in Latvia and Germany and traveling with his wife in Europe, Israel and Turkey.

Mrs. Mosbo was a homemaker and pastor’s wife, which in those days involved doing all the extra work at the church for the love of her husband only. She taught Sunday school and women’s Bible studies, served as the church organist and raised their three daughters.

They have lived in Bend for 28 years.
