Vancouver-based ZoomInfo files for IPO

Vancouver marketing company ZoomInfo said Tuesday it has filed for an initial public offering. If it follows through, this would be just the second substantial IPO from a company in the Portland area since 2004.

ZoomInfo was called DiscoverOrg until September. The new name comes from a better-known Massachusetts company that DiscoverOrg purchased in February.

Tuesday’s filing is confidential, meaning that ZoomInfo is not publicly disclosing financial results and other information that investors receive prior to a public offering. ZoomInfo will have to make that information public if it proceeds.

DiscoverOrg and ZoomInfo had previously reported $222 million in combined revenue last year and 930 employees. The firms did not disclose profitability data.

Founded 12 years ago, DiscoverOrg provides data on specific companies and individual managers so marketers can target their sales pitches directly to prospective clients.

The company has raised hundreds of millions of dollars – it has never said how much – and its owners include private equity firms The Carlyle Group and TA Associates. An IPO would give those firms the opportunity to cash out.

No Oregon company has held a substantial IPO since 2004, when both Cascade Microtech and McCormick & Schmick’s went public.
