Deschutes County is expanding the schedule for the southwest transfer station and recycling center near La Pine to six days a week instead of four.

Beginning Jan. 9, the station will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday, a press release from the county said.

The expanded schedule at the southwest transfer station, at 54580 U.S. Highway 97, will give southern Deschutes County residents easier access to its services, according to the release.

“With the growth that southern Deschutes County has been experiencing, expanding the schedule at the southwest transfer station will provide more convenient access to the community,” said Chad Centola, the county’s director of solid waste.

Deschutes County’s population grew by 25% between 2010 and 2020, according to U.S. Census Bureau data. The city of La Pine grew by 52% in that time.
