Central Oregon wrestlers fare well in Reno Tournament of Champions

Redmond, Mountain View and Crook County were three of the nine Oregon high school wrestling teams to compete at the Reno (Nevada) Tournament of Champions, where more than 90 teams from across the country took part Friday through Sunday.
Mountain View’s Jackson Potts, last year’s 160-pound Class 5A state champion, was the only Central Oregon boy to land on the podium at the end of the tournament, finishing sixth in the 165-pound weight class.
Additionally, Redmond’s Ashton Field (285), Mountain View’s Scout Santos (126) and Crook County’s Landen Lavey (138) all advanced to the quarterfinals of their respective weight classes.
In the girls field, Redmond’s Mackenzie Shearon (152) earned All-American honors by finishing third in her weight class. Crook County’s Ylyana Sandoval (185) also earned All-American honors with a second-place finish.
