Daniel B. DeLand
February 28, 1950 – July 1, 2024
Dan DeLand, husband of Jody DeLand, died the morning of July 1, 2024, in an accident while falling a tree on his property on the North Umpqua River. His last act of service to his family was to make their walking path safe from a danger tree.
Son of Jean Jennings and Durgin DeLand (both deceased), brother to Don Best, father to Marcus DeLand and Uncle of Nathan Anderson, Dan loved his remote river home where he spent summers beginning in the 1970s. He built a beautiful self-sufficient homestead, which was his dream when he met Jody 40 years ago.
Their life together was comprised of countless adventures, including five years of living onboard and sailing their Mariner 31 ketch in the Bahamas. They owned a forestry business for 10 years and a massage business for another 10 years. He was a health warrior and was passionate about clean food, clean water, alternative medicine and an active lifestyle.
Dan was an avid downhill skier and spent the last 25 seasons on Mt. Bachelor while living in his Sunriver home. He was the handiest guy and could fix everything from a diesel engine to a broken fence. A very kind and gentle soul, he always had stories to share going all the way back to his time growing up on Lake Sunapee in New Hampshire. Dan was a Breema Instructor and lived by The Nine Principles of Harmony. He loved poetry, classic literature and a wide variety of music. Dan recorded his life in photographs from an early age.
May he rest in peace and stay alive in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is missed beyond measure. No services are planned.
