Bend Endurance Academy is set to host the first USA Climbing Youth Bouldering competition of the season on Saturday.

Athletes ages 19 and younger from throughout Oregon will gather at the Bend Endurance Academy climbing facility to showcase their skills, test their limits and compete with other climbers on specific boulders for their age groups, according to a Bend Endurance Academy news release.

This competition is designed for youth climbers with varying levels of experience, from beginners to seasoned competitors who have participated in previous events. Climbers will aim to earn points toward their USA Climbing rankings to qualify for the regional championships in January.

As the first event of the USA Climbing season, this competition holds significant importance for young climbers, according to the release. The season runs through to the divisional championships in mid-February 2025, providing athletes an opportunity to gain valuable experience and improve their standings.

“We’re excited to kick off the season here in Bend,” said Mike Rougeux, executive director and climbing coach at Bend Endurance Academy. “It’s a great opportunity for youth climbers to come together, support one another, and test themselves in a fun and challenging environment.”

Founded in 2009, the Bend Endurance Academy currently features development programs for youth and juniors in rock climbing, mountain biking and Nordic skiing.
