A man who barricaded himself Tuesday inside the Oregon Tire Shop in Redmond eventually left the building after a standoff with law enforcement that lasted nearly three hours.
Oscar Landetta Bello, of Culver, was arrested for violating a restraining order preventing him from being at the business, second-degree criminal trespass and initiating a false report.
Redmond Police responded at 12:14 p.m. to a call for assistance at the tire shop at 612 NW Fifth St. The call was from Bello, who told police a person with a handgun was attempting to steal a vehicle from the business.
When officers arrived, they discovered there was nobody with a handgun trying to steal a vehicle. Instead, they found Bello had barricaded himself in the office of the tire shop.
Law enforcement secured a perimeter around the business. Crisis team negotiators from Bend Police communicated with Bello by telephone and ultimately convinced Bello to give himself up to law enforcement.
Bello was arrested at 3:03 p.m. and taken to St. Charles Redmond for an evaluation. He was expected to be taken to jail upon his release from the hospital.
Redmond and Bend police were joined by Oregon State Police and the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.
The owners and employees of Oregon Tire Shop assisted law enforcement during the incident.
